Special Programs

Dual Language:

The College Hills two-way dual language program, grades K-4, offers native Spanish speaking students and native English speaking students the opportunity to become bilingual in English and Spanish. Students develop oral and cognitive academic language proficiency in English and Spanish while mastering grade level TEKS in the content areas. The program is based on a 50/50 model, in which 50% of the instruction is delivered in English and the other 50% is delivered in Spanish.

Dyslexia:

Let's READ! is an intervention program for students identified with dyslexia. Students who qualify receive multi-sensory instruction in a small class setting. Components of instruction include phonemic awareness, reading, handwriting, and spelling.

Gifted and Talented:

The College Station Independent School District defines a gifted student as one who performs at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment, and who exhibits a high performance capacity for leadership, or excels in a specific academic field. College Hills serves identified gifted students in the GT program in kindergarten through 4th grade through a pull out program as well as through clustering in a classroom with other identified gifted students.

Head Start:

Head Start is a federally funded program. Its purpose and intent is to increase the social competence of young children and to provide a strong foundation of family support and education. By evaluating and meeting needs of the child and family in the areas of health, nutrition, mental health, social services, education and diagnosed or suspected disabilities, the program is able to prepare individuals for a successful school experience. Head Start classes are structured with a careful balance of individual choice and large group experiences. A focus on literacy and math is built into activities to create a basis for future learning. Community field trips provide the children a look at the wider world and enhance parental involvement as well. Working with campus and district staff, Head Start addresses strengths and challenges of children and families to supply the best resources available.
